This iconic John Deere Tractor is an American classic. The mid-sized 4020 was the most popular of its kind and saw many significant changes. Built from 1964 to 1972, it is a power horse that pulls not just a disc or a planter, but both hooked in tandem. Easy attachment of a dual rear tire provides extra traction, which benefits the 4020 since it can pull more than most of the tractors manufactured during this time. In 1966, John Deere started offering a roll-over protective structure, Roll-guard® on this tractor, helping pave the way for farming safety – especially in steep terrains.

The power front-wheel drive and double rear wheels are popular features on the 4020. Originally offered in row-crop or standard configurations with gasoline, diesel or LP-gas engine, the LP-gas option was dropped and the row-crop and standard configurations were blended. The gasoline and LP gas models have a 34 gallon tank, while the diesel model holds 45 gallons. The six-cylinder engine tractor was originally offered as a 2WD tractor, but later came with an option of 4WD near the end of its production time. Two different transmission systems are available - a full power shift gear box and a partially synchronized Syncro-range.

The 4020 saw an end to the bulky levers inside the cab, it features cable control takeoff. The 4020 also has shift levers that were readjusted and all the hydraulic controls are at the driver’s side, just like modern day tractors.
The various tire sizes, including a wide axle, makes it an easy match for row crops. Like most John Deere’s, attachments include front end loader and various rear attachments.
